How the online platform started

We Are Tech Africa reported on 21 February 2025, in an article by Samira Njoya, that Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop launched a digital platform for consular services on 18 February 2025 ⁵. The report said the platform covers visa applications by foreigners who wish to visit Mali, and the minister said it would be operational fifteen days after launch ⁵. The report said the platform was designed by Malian experts and named no company ⁵.

The same report said the platform is expected to become compatible with the Visa Liptako, a planned visa of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) ⁵. That link was a plan at the time of the report. This site found no official notice that a Liptako visa is live.

Steps to apply

The Embassy of Mali in Japan publishes a step guide for the ministry portal ⁷. The steps below follow that guide.

• Open diplomatiemdc.gouv.ml/vitrine and choose the link Venir au Mali pour, which offers tourism, private visits, business and studies ^7,2.
• Enter basic details, complete the form and upload the required documents ⁷.
• Receive a reference number by email from the Malian authorities ⁷.
• Pay the fee as the mission instructs. The Japan embassy asks for a bank transfer or cash ⁷. The UK FCDO says payment is online ¹.
• Receive the visa or entry permit by email once payment is confirmed ^7,1.

The Embassy of Mali in India lists the following, in PDF or JPG format ³. The Japan embassy guide adds that the Malian authorities may ask for more documents ⁷.

Fees and processing

The Embassy of Mali in India gives an average processing time of 5 to 10 business days, excluding urgent cases ³. Neither the India nor the Japan embassy page lists the visa fee ^3,7. The older Japan embassy page says the fee is paid in Japanese yen, with a 4,000 yen bank commission added, and diplomatic and official passport holders get the visa free ⁶.

The French foreign ministry says visas for French nationals are issued for thirty days and can be renewed in Mali ⁴. This site did not find a current official fee table, so no amount is given here.

Visa on arrival and past rules

The French foreign ministry says it is not possible to get a visa on arrival at Bamako airport ⁴. The Japan embassy says visas are not issued at the airport on arrival ⁶.

In 2007 TourMaG reported a 30-day airport visa for tour groups at 15,000 FCFA and a 5-day airport visa available since 2005 ⁸. Those rules are historical.

US nationals

Al Jazeera reported on 12 October 2025 that Mali imposed visa bonds on US citizens to match US bonds of US$5,000 to US$10,000 on Malian applicants ⁹. The Associated Press reported on 30 December 2025 that Mali then barred US citizens from entering with immediate effect, on reciprocity grounds ¹⁰. The US State Department says Mali suspended visa issuance to US citizens as of 1 January 2026, with limited exceptions ¹¹.
